Bio

One line

Alex Arbaugh — the "Waynesboro troubadour": Southern-rock roots and Americana from the foot of the Blue Ridge, solo or with the rock band Sun Dried Opossum.

Short

Alex Arbaugh is a singer and guitarist from Waynesboro, Virginia, billed by the venues he plays as the "Waynesboro troubadour." Solo, he plays acoustic Southern-rock roots and Americana — covers and originals — across the breweries, wineries and festivals of Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. He also co-fronts Sun Dried Opossum, the guitar-driven rock band with three albums and, by their own count, over a thousand shows behind them.

Full

Alex Arbaugh has spent decades doing the thing a working musician actually does: showing up, plugging in, and reading a room. Solo, he's the troubadour — an acoustic guitar, a road-worn voice, and a set that moves easily from the covers a crowd came to sing into originals that hold their own. It's a sound built for the taprooms, cideries and winery patios of the Blue Ridge, and it has taken him from Waynesboro's city concert series to a debut at Hardywood's West Creek brewery in Richmond, where he was billed simply as the "Waynesboro troubadour."

Turn the volume up and Alex co-fronts Sun Dried Opossum, the guitar-driven rock-'n'-roll band that — by its own account — formed in 1992 and has racked up three albums and more than a thousand live shows. Apple Music files them near Houndmouth and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros; a 2006 profile called them "a cross between southern rock and Phish." Their catalog runs from the studio albums Sun-Dried (2001) and Back Up (2005) through the concert album Live at Basic City (2018) and a recent run of singles.

Whether it's one man and a guitar at a cocktail hour or the full band closing down a festival stage, the pitch is the same: a seasoned, room-ready act you can count on to show up and deliver.
